Would you take an entry level job in the field you want to be in or one that pays more?

Hi, Im finishing my masters in mechanical engineering. For the past couple months I have been doing more electrical engineering toil as an entry controls engineer. I would like to be in controls however the pay isnt the best and the commute is 1:30-2 hours on the road daily, possibly more if we have to go onsite.

On the other hand, a informal gas entry position opened. The job description isnt what I ultimately want to do, but the pay would probably be an extra $10k, utility benefits, and its down the street from where I live.

If you were me early in your career, would you go for the higher paying job or the one that could give you the skills you want? I mean I guess I can internally apply to a controls job at the gas company if it opens. What do you meditate?
