Why UPS is used as an emergency power source?

If we use just batteries to provide power to our computers or other electrical appliances, when main power is not available, then why USP is needed?

Batteries will provide power, but why we use UPS?

to provide time to shutdown.. if it is not used sometimes pc got off suddenly

a UP i a CONVENIENT mean for providing uninteruptable service to your devices. If you tried to use a battery of the proper voltage, it would be difficult or impractical to connect up the battery when needed, and you would have to be very FAST to make the connection if you needed uninteruptable service.

A UPS i used mainly for equipment powered from the mains. If the main power fail, battery backup i automatically switched in to provide power during the mains failure or to allow a safe shutdown of the equipment.

If the equipment only runs on battery power, no UP is necessary.
