Being on the inside he should have known how to react when one of hi own pulled a fast one on him and instead of seeking help from the English would have fared better to keep it to himself and get even in some other way that kept it all inside the power click. Like settling the score in the same way through underhanded intelligence and patience perhaps. In those circles one has to know how to react to the corruption of the others and definetly not go outside for help because they are harder on you that way. He went outside of the "family" of power brokers for help and that wa his mistake.
