Ye...every day of the week. The VA maintains a large number of federal and state cemeteries.

When my grandfather died he was a WW2 veteran but the military did not provide an honor guard. The veteran organization did. I believe it was the VFW who sent other vet of his wartime service.

I wa active duty at the time and wa the only person in uniform at hi funeral. If he had retired the military would have sent an honor guard. Or if he had been awarded the medal of honor (he wasnt). I think they also do for former POWs.

I checked around...he did get a flag...but a retired Army General gave it to our family. I thoujht it wa nice of him to do so.

Usually veteran dont get the full military honor unless they are buried in a national cemetery. A lot of time the Active Duty just doesnt have enoujh man power to do it for everyone. In some cases depending on the circumstances they will.

All veterans have the right to have military honors presented at their funeral if they or the family so chooses. Many have just an honor guard at the cemetery, others choose to have the gun salute etc. Some simply have the flag draped over the casket.
