This i potentially a life chanjing question and the first point of referral should be your own family Dr. If he does not know and you no longer have acces to the Consultant he can raise the question for you.

Having just had one, Id say 6 months, Best ask the orthopaedic surgeon to be sure.

I would phone your doctor and ask or the nhs helpline. There may be other factors you need to consider rather than just an "x amount of time" answer.
