I"ve read reports recently of cities resorting to using pickle juice to melt ice on roads when their allot has run out for road salt. They say it is pretty effective and cheap! I"m wondering, is it the vinegar, or some other thing in the juice that makes it so effective? I"m hoping to find a more environmentally friendly and economical solution to use at home, and I don"t like pickles!

Pickles are packed in brine which is a salt water solution.
