Apollo Drilling Inc., Dallas, has changed its name to Southwest Hydrocarbons Inc. to reflect a change of business focus to exploration, acquisition, and production.

Roc Oil has farmed out the majority of its interest in the Cabinda South block in Angola to Pluspetrol Resources, thus reducing its exposure and minimizing exploration expenditure.

The June natural gas contract jumped by 5.1% on May 1 on the New York market amid indications the economic downturn is slowing and fuel demand may soon increase.

Total US natural gas consumption this year will drop by nearly 2%, according to the most recent Short-Term Energy Outlook from the US Energy Information Administration, released earlier this week.

US drilling activity increased for the fifth consecutive week, inching up by 2 rotary rigs to 968 working, compared with 1,990 during the same period a year ago, said Baker Hughes Inc.
