here are simple rules and charts..all for free...if you are using smaller scale ships use centemeters instead of inches and you are there. http://hmgs-midsouth.org/2011/03/10/nashcon-2011-american-civil-war-ironclad-game-extravaganza-2/

Check out the free rules download in the files section of this group. That would be a great start.

I would give "Sail and Steam Navies" a try. It´s a great rules set, easy to learn but loads of fun. You can fine more information at this link:

Try getting Yaquinto´s "Ironclads" game. The game is long out of print but you can find the game on E-bay. This is a full boxed game with map, counters, and rules. There is even a separate boxed expansion kit. This is a fantastic award winning system that is easily adaptable to miniatures play. If you want further info contact me and I can fill you in on the different rules sets. But, Ironclads (the game), will teach you alot about the individual ships, tactics and history. I highly recommend it.

Many gamers were using Under Both Flags, written by Dave Brandon. He has just seriously upgraded that game system to make it even more enjoyable and very playable. The new game is Sail and Steam Navies. This set of rules was debuted at Cold Wars this past March and will be used for the upcoming HistoriCon Battle of Plaquemine Bend when the Federal fleet ran past forts Jackson and St. Phillip. This will be a good naval action in 1/600 scale.

Should be very interesting.

Ciao! Pat H.

Sorry, Patrick, but I found it to be a serious step back from the the original. Pretty much just Dice At Sea now. Unwieldy and unrealistic. Your ships are great, these new rules are not.
