Here are a few vintage Star Wars Public Service Announcements for your viewing pleasure. These have been floating around the net for some time but you may not have seen all of them. They"re each only about a minute. making them definitely a whole lot easier to stomach and get through then the Star Wars Christmas Special.

The Immunizationnbsp;PSA came out in 1977 shortly afternbsp;A New Hope was unleashed to the world -- and features C-3PO and R2D2 discussing the diseases droids can"t get that humans on earth can. Either way, you droids are still not allowed in the Cantina.

Speaking of the Cantina, the Drunk Driving PSAnbsp;featured the Cantina band playing that ONE song Figrin D"an and the Modal Nodesnbsp;know. Produced for the US Dept of Transportation, thisnbsp;debuted in 1979 as part of the famous "Friends don"t let friends drive drunk" campaign.

The last and funniest vintage PSA was produced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and features C-3PO catching R2-D2 smoking a cigarette. Even though these droids don"t have hearts, they must set the good example for us humans. The Anti- Smoking ad debuted in 1981.

I"ve been doing horrible (and progressively less accurately quoted) impressions of C-3PO and R2D2 from this PSA for a couple of years now. Yes it"s annoying to the smokers I do it too and yes it does get old... but I insist on doing it anyway. I take any chance I get to spread some Star Wars love. For example, try this: The next time you order a pizza, pay the delivery guy and instead of saying "bye" or "thanks" say, "May the Force be with you." But not in a jokey way, like a weird creepy religious way. Or, if some says something is "impossible" or "difficult" respond with, "It"s not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they"re not much bigger than two meters."

Just as a bonus:

Here is ultra rare behind the scenes footage of the immunization PSA. It features Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Kenny Baker as R2-D2 with director Peter Shillingford (guy in blue sweater.)

And though this is not vintage or official in anyway, here"s a fake PSA against Dark Sith Lords who use Lightsabers.

We had a really fun year at the movies, and there were a lot of great films that came out that I really enjoyed watching, but now is the time to choose my favorite movies of 2009. Only ten movies get to make the list, but after seeing all the films that the filmmakers of the world have made this year, it wasnrsquo;t really that hard for me to pick them out.nbsp;

These ten films left a strong impression on me over the last year, and are movies I feel I can watch over and over again without getting tired of them.

1. Star Trek

The moment the movie started I was in awe, my jaw just dropped and hung open. I was immediately engulfed in the world that was created for us. The movie had me in a big giant hug from the beginning to the end of the film, and it wasnrsquo;t like a tight annoying bear hug, it was a comfortable hug that just felt right. I couldnrsquo;t believe the awesomeness that was unfolding before my eyes! Gigantic star ships flying through space, lasers and explosions, mixed with incredible sound effects and music, a fantastic story with wonderful characters all mixed together in a flurry of brilliance made this one of the best movie going experiences I have had in a very long time.nbsp;

2. 500 days of Summer

I have nothing but good things to say about this movie. It was really quite an amazing film, and it"s one that I recommend to everyone! I want to stand on the rooftops and yell at the huge crowd standing below to see this movie! Itrsquo;s a movie with characters that I think most people may be able to connect with. It really connected with me on a personal level because I have gone through the same type of experience as the main character Tom did. The movie also has a great and look to it, and the way the story starts sets the tone for the whole film. Itrsquo;s a funny, sad and uplifting film.

3. Inglourious Basterds

It is my opinion that director Quentin Tarantino made his best film this year. Every moment of this movie, you are completely enthralled with the events taking place on screen. You"re sucked into this historically based alternate universe. At times you ache to get in on the action, and the rest of the time you feel held captive by it. It was so fun watching the characters created for this film up on screen, and I loved the intensity of the film and the and how the scenes and events of the story unfolded. As long as this movie already was I would have loved to spend some more time exploring the universe Tarantino created. That was the films biggest strength, it completes and satisfies itself, but leaves you wanting more.

4. The Hurt Locker

This was such a awesomely intense film! I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. The story was awesome and the acting was incredible. This is a film that has all the right ingredients to be nominated for and possibly take the top prize of Best Picture for the year. In fact I would love to see it win Best Picture of the year. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie and if you havenrsquo;t had the chance to see it yet make sure you watch it when it hits the street on DVD.

5. District 9

This has got everything a movie geek is looking for in a film, there is nothing to complain about! Itrsquo;s got an original idea, there was no built in audience, it was full of actors you have never heard of before, and this is the first feature film that director Neill Blomkamp has directed! Here is a guy that every fanboy and fangirl knew about, and until this movie was released he was only known for what he didnrsquo;t do, and that was his attachment to the Halo film that fell through. Not many directors can slap their name on their first feature film, and have people know who that person is, and what they havenrsquo;t done. It is well deserved though. Blomkampnbsp; created a great movie! His style is hard edged and tough. Hersquo;s not afraid to get down and dirty. He"s made a very gritty sci-fi film, and I loved it.

6. Avatar

Not since Star Wars have wee seen a completely original world brought to life in such a huge and movie changing way. Avatar is the Star Wars of this generation. Not since The Lord of the Ringsnbsp;trilogy have we seen anything so epically huge and mind blowing! After The Lord of the Rings trilogy ended I wondered if we would ever see a movie on such an epic scale like that again, and James Cameron was the guy that pulled it off. Sure wersquo;ve seen the story a million times with with Tarzan, Dances With Wolves, Ferngully, and a ton of other films where manifest destiny is used to tell a story. Only the story has never been told so epically.nbsp;

7. Moon

There is nothing not to like about Moon. It is everything a good sc-fi movie should be and more. The story was iron clad, there are no unexplained plot holes that leave you guessing what happened to who or what. Sam Worthington gave the best performance of his career in this film and he should be nominated for a best actor award for what he did in this movie. He was absolutely incredible, I was in awe watching him do his thing on screen. I think the film has the potential to be a classic much like Pitch Black and Gattica.

8. The Hangover

This is by far the best comedy the year, one of the funniest comedies I have seen in a long time. It"s going to be very hard to top, because the comedy bar has been set very high. I just don"t see anything coming out that will be able to out-comedy this film. Everyone in the film was hilarious! Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zack Galifianakis were awesome. But it"s Galifianakis who stole the show. I had to put this film on the list! It had me laughing from beginning to end.

9. The Brothers Bloom

I donrsquo;t know how or why but this movie seemed to be overlooked by everyone! The Brothers Bloom was a totally adorable dramedy built on a mature fantasy world. In a world where all we are seeing in the movie theaters are sequels, remakes, comic book, and video game movies it is awesome to see a slick original film with new and different lovable characters. Johnson has created another original film unlike anything I have seen before. In telling the story of the perfect con, Johnson created a perfect movie. There is never a dull moment in the film. It consistently keeps you entertained through the whole movie, I couldn"t help but have a smile on my face all the way through it.nbsp;

10. A Serious Man

The Coen Brothers managed to create a significant film about insignificance, and a meaningful film about meaninglessness. It asks the ageless question... ldquo;Why do bad things happen to good peoplerdquo; But doesnrsquo;t give an answer. This film is very unconventional, there are no defined themes, no plot resolution, no typical Hollywood ending. The ending is open for the audience to interpret. The Coen Brothers are not only screwing around with Larryrsquo;s life, but they are playing with the audience as well, which is why I liked it so much. If you can accept the mystery of this film ...

When the action flick Minority Report hit the silver screen, I remember being wowed by the futuristic operations center which was the main focus of the movie. People moving information from screen to screen with a flick of the wrist, looking up suspects and whizzing through data by doing nothing more than moving their fingers. The technology seemed so far away.. and what a difference just a few short years have made.

Today we have similar wonders, including the multi-touch screen, and now.. Project Natal. We have seen glimpses of this project, hints at what it can do. How it will be integrated with XBox Live and the Live Vision Camera. How interactive it will be with friends, products, and games. Until now though we haven"t seen it in action, with a game that requires constant input. A video was leaked showing what appears to be Halflife 2 being operated through Project Natal"s interface.

No Audio. The video was shot from behind, almost as if the Natal operator was unaware of the video footage. Because of this, we are not sure if this was an approved release, or released without permission.

Regardless of the level of approval, the concept of this leaked footage is amazing; to be able to control an FPS like Half-Life 2 through the motions of one"s hand.nbsp; I just don"t think the technology is mature enough to give the precise control that an FPS player requires. I can think of a lot more fun, and.. interesting applications for the technology. Ones that would be more intuitive, and less precise, than the pinpoint accuracy needed to snipe someone across the map in a game like HL2. Platformers, RPGs, puzzle games, and just about anything else (maybe not RTS) would seem to be great for this Project Natal interface.

Either way, the silent film definitely seems to be that of the popular shooter. You can see 1/4 of the way through the video, the female Half Life character, Alyx Vance runs infront of the screen.

The real focus for me is not the fact that HL2 is being played through a control interface that really isn"t suited for it - you can control an FPS with a joystick if you really wanted to, but you wouldn"t be very good at it. It is the advancements the industry is making in how we interface with our consoles and our computers that really excites me. Combine something like Natal for actions with something like OCZ"s Neural Impulse Actuator for aiming and movement, and suddenly it seems that the future is very near. Imagine aiming with nothing more than a thought, and firing with a pull of your finger on a virtual trigger.

Now THAT would give just about anyone chills of excitement.

What do you think

We are now in a new year. 2010 is upon us and the future looks bright. I just wanted to take one more look back at all of the movies that came out back in 2009. nbsp;Matt Shapiro who is known asnbsp;oyguvaltshappynbsp;on YouTube has edited put together a great look back at all of the films we saw last year. He started making these videos in 2006 when he was 14 years old.nbsp;

The video is called 2009: The Cinescape, and it is I think is my favorite 2009 movie mash-up. There are a bunch of great film clips that is combined with the nbsp;music of Radiohead"s Exit Music (For a Film).nbsp;

Here is a note from the creator:

So here we are, at the end of a momentous decade, and the personal significance this video holds with me - I made the first one around the time high school started, and I made this one as its approaching an end - makes me especially proud to present to you, for the fourth (but certainly not final) time, 2009: THE CINESCAPE.

Hope you enjoy the video below!

Toy Story 3 is going to hit theaters this year, and I think it"s something we can all get excited about, the final chapter in a franchise we all know and love. A new featurette has been released for the film called Drawn to Animation. The video doesn"t show much of anything we haven"t seen before, the big thing that it shows is our first real look at a new character in the movie called Mr. Pricklepants who is voiced by the great Timothy Dalton. It will be fun to see what kind of role Mr. Pricklepants will actually play in the story because as of right now we don"t know.

The film comes out June 18, 2010 in 3D. Check out the video below and let us know what ya think!

nbsp;Does anyone else think he kinda looks like Winnie the Poohnbsp;

Hey Gang! You gotta check out this out! It"s footage from a live-action film currently in production in Japan called Space Battleship Yamato. The film is based on a classic 1970"s anime series of the same name, which I used to watch as a kid growing up. I loved the huge space battleships in this series, and now to see them brought to life I can"t help but get excited. This speaks to the kid in me. The film looks pretty freakin awesome, and it"s being directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also directed the film, Always - Sunset on Third Street parts 1 and 2.

Here is a little story info:

Set in 2220, the pic will depict the evacuation of 300 million people from Earth to avoid certain death from an expanding black hole. The Yamato, a space battleship, is leading the rescue fleet when it is attacked by an alien force.

This film looks absolutely awesome, there"s no doubt it looks good, I just hope the story is just as strong as the visuals. A seriously can"t wait to see this movie. Check out the trailer below and please tell us what you think!

Due to Script Issues SPIDER-MAN 4 Officially Has No Start Date

Last monthnbsp;we reportednbsp;on a little note posted on the IMDB message boards aboutnbsp;Spider-Man 4nbsp;being delayed indefinitely. The reason given was because Sony Pictures andnbsp;Sam Raiminbsp;couldnrsquo;t agree on the villain for the film and I believe that"s definitely a part of it. The movie was originally supposed to start shooting in February, then it was moved to March/April, but now who knows when itrsquo;s going to happen.

Here is the letter that was sent out:

Hey there--

We were just notified that our schedule is pushing. We will NOT be starting as planned. Irsquo;m terribly sorry for this news, and I hope this email reaches you in time to find other options. We do not know how long we are pushing, and we will not know until mid-January. By mid-January, we will be told how long the push is, whether it be 2 weeks, 2 months, or something else. The studio has every intention of making the movie, but we no longer have anbsp;confirmed start date.

Again, Irsquo;m terribly sorry, but Sam Raimi has story issues [that] need to be resolved before we are ready to shoot.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

VFX Team

There were rumors that started circulating about Sony Pictures having the film put on hold due to the Holidays, but today itrsquo;s been confirmed that thatrsquo;s not the case at all. As of todaynbsp;Spider-Man 4nbsp;has no official start date.

Apparently Sam Raimi absolutely hated the script that has gone through the hands of screenwritersnbsp;Jamie Vanderbilt, David Lindsay-Abaire,nbsp;andnbsp;Gary Ross.nbsp;As of right now the studio and Raimi are waiting for a new script to come in fromnbsp;Alvin Sargentnbsp;who wrotenbsp;Spider-Man 2nbsp;andnbsp;3. The film was scheduled to come out May 11thnbsp;2011, but it looks like that date isnrsquo;t going to happen according to Sony insiders.nbsp;

It depends on how quicklynbsp;the script can get in.

But the film will most likely be pushed back in that same summer time frame, so between June and August we may be able to see Spider-Man 4. Insiders at Sony say,

Some decisionsnbsp;have been made over the holiday aboutnbsp;Spider-Man 4.nbsp;We will be extending the production hiatus on the film. The studio is firmly committed to this franchise but, for us, the script must come first. We intend to notify members of the crew immediately. As you know, Alvin Sargent is currently working on the screenplay. When we have more news, we will keep you posted.

They just want to make sure the script is solid before they begin, which is totally understandable! We donrsquo;t want anothernbsp;Spider-Man 3! They are doing everything they can to get it out in May, but at this point who knows what will happen.

Raimi is also still insisting that John Malkovich is set to play the villain in the movie as The Vulture. I assume when itrsquo;s all said and done that that"s the guy that will be cast. Which is awesome! You canrsquo;t go wrong with Malkovich. As for Anne Hathaway being cast in the movie, it doesnrsquo;t look like they are going to go in that direction because she is too expensive for the studio, they say they donrsquo;t need a big star in that role.

So therersquo;s your latestnbsp;Spider-Man 4nbsp;drama movie update! I donrsquo;t know about you, but it sounds like there are a lot of people butting heads on the Sony studio lot. If the film ends up better because of it, then itrsquo;s a win for the fans. But it could also be hurting the production as well. I just hope we end up getting to see a great Spider-man movie.

What do you all think

Thanks for joining Venkman, Root Mazer, Abe Froman and Ben P for the first GT Weekly Podcast of January/of the year/of the decade. We have plenty to sink our teeth into as we discuss the Avatar"s landmark box-office weekend and we review a couple of films that came out during the holiday break. We also go over Venkman"s Favorite 10 Movies of 2009 and use his list as a jumping off point to discuss our own lists. We more than mention the Honorable Mentions as we go in depth into those as well.

So allow us to usher you into two thousand ten, twenty-ten, two-zero one-zero, or whatever you"re going to call this new decade.

Here is the breakdown of the topics and movies we discuss, and when we talk about them:

As you know the award season is getting ready to blow up. nbsp;Everyone is giving their best of lists, and nominations from different type of award ceremonies are popping up left and right. Among them is the Producers Guild of America who announced their annual nominees today.

It"s great to see that the Science Fiction genre got some solid recognition this year on the list as films like Avatar, District 9 and Star Trek are all included on the list of nominees. Avatar seems to be making everyone"s nominee list this year though.nbsp;

So! Here is the list of nominees:nbsp;

Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award:
Avatar - James Cameron, Jon Landau
District 9 - Producers: Carolynne Cunningham, Peter Jackson
An Education - Producers: Finola Dwyer, Amanda Posey
The Hurt Locker - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.
Inglourious Basterds - Producer: Lawrence Bender
Invictus - Producers: Clint Eastwood, Rob Lorenz, Lori McCreary , Mace Neufeld
Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire - Producers: Lee Daniels, Gary Magness, Sarah Siegel-Magness
Star Trek - Producers: J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof
Up - Producer: Jonas Rivera
Up in the Air - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.

PGA Producer of the Year Award in Animation:
9 - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.
Coraline - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.
Fantastic Mr. Fox - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.
The Princess and the Frog - Producer: Peter Del Vecho
Up - Producer: Jonas Rivera

PGA Producer of the Year Award in Documentaries:
Burma VJ - Producer: Lise Lense-Moller
The Cove - Producers: Paula DuPre Pesman, Fisher Stevens
Sergio - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.
Soundtrack for a Revolution - Producer(s): Awaiting final credit determination.

My one question is where in the hell is the nominee for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs! That was one of my favorite animated movies this year, it could have easily replaced 9 which was heavy on action but lacked in story.

It"s fun quoting movies! Who doesn"t like quoting movies when hanging out with their friends It"s just something we do, it comes naturally. When that right moment comes to insert a movie quote, we do it. I was sent a great list of the 100 quotes every geek should know. The list was compiled by Geek Dad over at Wired Magazine and it"s pretty much spot on. Not all of the quotes are from movies but the majority of them are.

I have listed the first 50 quotes for you below. Make sure to head on over to Wired to read the last 50.
