In the latest dev diary for Jurassic World Evolution 2, game director Rich Newbold, executive producer Adam Woods, senior animator Amy Hook, and lead designer Jim Stimpson talk about some new features of the game.

Mostly it is about the different terrains you can build your park in, challenges presented by weather, the building customization options, character and dinosaur customizations and upgrades, and the aviary and lagoon enclosures.

Each of these dev diaries has me more excited for this game, the amount of customization youll be able to do is incredible. You can choose buildings from the various time periods of Jurassic Park, you can edit your dinosaurs genome to change colors or make them more resistant to disease, and you can upgrade your scientists and workers to make them more efficient.

Caring for the dinosaurs doesnt sound easy though, youll need to prepare for the worst weather possible and be sure you can treat your dinosaurs when they get sick or injured. The aviary sounds interesting as unhappy Pteranodons can escape the enclosure, so be sure to detain them content. Overall, this game looks really fun to play.

Heres a fun and interesting video from Vox that explains the behind-the-scenes special effects tricks used in slasher horror films to make the bloody violence look actual. There are some great filmmaking techniques used to pull some of this stuff off, and if youre a horror movie fan, Im sure youll enjoy this.

The video came with the following note:

Horror films and specifically slashers are known for abundant on-screen violence. Making that fake violence look actual often comes down to props. Prop masters and special effects workers prepare knives, blood, and explosions to slash people...without actually slashing them.

To pull this off they might use rubber, plastic, retractable, or even digital knives. Blood recipes have been improving over the decades to flow more realistically, and better soak into clothing. And explosions, both with air and squibs, push out blood to make scenes feel more realistic.

With movies, its often what you dont see that makes the difference. After prop masters, makeup artists, and special effects artists complete their labor, they pass the baton off to other members of the crew. Actors sell it, camera operators get the right angles to highlight the action while hiding the tubes and wires, and editors cut the different takes together. When pulled off well, itll make you feel like what youre witnessing is actual even though its just movie magic.

Im a mammoth fan of James Wans Malignant, I thought it was a great horror film that was just so crazy and unique. I think a lot of people might have misunderstood the film because there are a lot of people that didnt like it. I assume those who didnt like it really didnt understand what Wan was looking to deliver with the film. In the end, he knew exactly what he was doing.

I know the movie has already come and gone, and those who wanted to watch it have already done so, but Warner Bros. has released a new video titled James Wans Visions and it takes us behind-the-scenes of the film as the filmmaker explains his vision for it.

Elden Ring is a new game from Bandai Namco releasing on February 25, 2022 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series XS, Xbox One, or PC via STEAM. You will adventure in the Lands Between to fight monsters and attempt to claim the title Elden Lord. Weve gotten both a preorder trailer and a narrated gameplay trailer. Gameplay covered in the trailer are world conceive, legacy dungeons, traveling, combat, and multiplayer. Overall the game looks nice, I especially enjoyed watching the fight with the dragon and summoning your horse to ride.

The classic scene from Jurassic Park where the T-Rex makes its big terrifying debut has been remade. In this version the scene features a giant cat instead of a T-Rex and its pretty silly and amusing. I seriously dont watch a lot of cat videos, I swear! But, this one popped up online so I thought Id share it. Enjoy!

Indie studio Retro Forge Games, working in partnership with publisher Dear Villagers (The Forgotten City, ScourgeBringer), revealed arrange new commented gameplay for their upcoming debut Souldiers. 

Souldiers wraps Metroidvania exploration, crunchy Soulslike action and precision platforming into one gorgeous pixel art package. Players take on the role of either scout, caster or archer battling for freedom in Terragaya, a mystical land on the border between life and death.

The game looks great and will bring back all your nostalgia for the classic 16-bit games. It definitely looks worth checking out when it releases in Spring 2022 on Switch and PC via Steam. You can check out the gameplay trailer with commentary below, if you have a harsh time understanding heavy accents I would recommend turning on the captions.

Amazon has released the trailer for their original film Encounter, starring Riz Ahmed, who has returned to the streamer after his stunning Oscar-nominated performance in the film Sound of Metal. This psychological thriller tells the heartbreaking story of a father who is fighting a force that he believes to be alien invaders, but its harsh to tell for sure whether they are actual or in his head.

The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan, and Aditya Geddada, and it is directed and co-written by Michael Pearce, who persist helmed the acclaimed psychological thriller Beast. Joe Barton, creator and writer of the series Giri/Haji also co-wrote.

Heres the full synopsis:

A decorated Marine goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an unhuman threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous directions, the boys will need to abandon their childhoods behind.

This looks like its going to be a heartbreaking film, and it also looks like Ahmed is going to give another incredible performance. The movie will have a theatrical release on December 3, 2021, followed by a streaming premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 10, 2021.

A third Trolls film has been announced by Universal Pictures, and this time, it is headed back to theatres. The second film, Trolls World Tour, premiered when movie theatres were closed at the height of the pandemics quarantine, and because of the timing, the studio decided to make the film available for purchase in-home instead of postponing like many other films did. As a parent with kids who were excited about the movie, I was thrilled that they made this move, but theatres were not so happy.

The untitled third film will return to movie theatres, in hopes to bring fans back to the big screen. There is not word yet on the films synopsis, but Trolls 3 will be released in theaters on Nov. 17, 2023.

While we wait, a new Trolls holiday special titled Trolls Holiday in Harmony is set to debut this week, featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. It will air on Friday, Nov. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. In the holiday-themed episode, Queen Poppy is planning the inaugural Trolls Kingdom Secret Holiday Award Swap. But things take an unexpected turn when she and Branch draw each others select.
