Russell Crowe Finally Explains Why He Passed on Playing WOLVERINE

Wolverine has had long (and rocky) existence in cinema, but there is no denying that Hugh Jackman has played the role flawlessly. Even if the movie was bad, Jackman portrayed Logan perfectly. Think all the way back to the original X-Men, weve known for several years that Jackman was not the first choice to play Wolverine, but his fellow countryman, Russell Crowe was actually Bryan Singers first choice. Now we finally know why Crowe decided not to take the role that became career defining for Jackman.

According to News.com.au Crowe explained what happened while guest hosting on a Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa:

Bryan [Singer, X-Men director] was a friend at the time and he was really putting the pressure on, the star admitted. But Crowe said his Gladiator characters association with wolves turned him off the idea. If you remember, Maximus has a wolf at the centre of his cuirass, and he has a wolf as his companion ... which I thought was going to be a bigger deal [at the time], he explained. So I said no, because I didnt want to be wolfy, like Mr Wolf.

And funny enough all of Crowes concerns with the wolf references in Gladiator were cut out and never made the final cut.

As we know Jackman is very grateful for Crowes decision, his career has benefitted greatly influenced by Crowe. He told EW back in 2012:

I owe him because two of the biggest roles Ive ever had in my life, he turned down and suggested me for them. On X-Men, he was Bryan Singers first choice for Wolverine, and he mentioned me also for (Baz Luhrmanns) Australia. He really is incredibly smart, and benevolent.

How do you think Crowe would have done as Wolverine? I think it worked out the best possible way.

LOGAN Director Reveals How That Taco Bell Joke Made It Into the Film

As wonderful as the whole of Logan was, hearing Professor X talk about the wonderful price of delicious food at Taco Bell had to be one of my favorite moments. It was very reminiscent of an episode of Extras where Patrick Stewart talked about stories of womens clothes just disappearing. But where did this crazy idea come from? Was it a paid for by Taco Bell? According to Logan director James Mangold, no.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Mangold talked a bit about how that Taco Bell part came to be:

"The funny story of why that dialogues in there is, I was actually offered a Taco Bell commercial while we were in prep. And while I was writing the scene, I was looking for Charles to say things random things that indicate that hed been watching TV too much, and I literally had this Taco Bell commercial script on my desk for the new quesalupa from Taco Bell, and in my desperation to get pages done, I just took it and plugged it right in."

So, no, there was no Taco Bell cross promotion, but the filmmaker did labor on a commercial for it. However, even he doesnt know if the commercial was ever aired. Being a writer myself, I totally understand the need to finish a project and just finding words. Sometimes, the best things can be done because of haste. In this case, one of the best lines in the film.

Review: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is a Fantastically Fun Adventure

Im not the biggest fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. I loved the first film but then each film after that seemed to get progressively worse. After the fourth one, I didnt think wed see anymore. Then Disney announced Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which left me rolling my eyes and kind of excited at the same time. Why was I excited? Because of the guys the studio hired to lead it, Joachim Rnning and Espen Sandberg. They directed a little film called Kon Tiki, which I absolutely loved and I thought that if they could bring that same filmmaking and storytelling magic to Dead Men Tell No Tales it could be great.

That being said, the directors did bring that storytelling magic to the movie! I thought Dead Men Tell No Tales is the best film in the franchise since the very first one that was made and the studio should end the franchise on this high note. I really hope that Disney doesnt drag this out any further. Theyve finally made a solidly good Pirates movie and now is the time to end it.

I really enjoyed the story that the film told and how expanded on the history and background of Jack Sparrow and at the same time introduced a new villain from Jacks past, Captain Salazar, which is a villain that I thoroughly enjoyed watching as he was awesomely played by Javier Braden

The story followed Captain Jack Sparrow as he is being hunted down by the cursed ghost sailors led by his Captain Salazar. The only chance that Jack has to survive is to find the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but that turns out to be no easy task! This story was only strengthened by the fun characters, humor, and the exciting action-dense adventure that we watch these characters embark on.

As for the rest of the cast, everyone was great. Johnny Depp just played the role the way he always plays him, but this time around I actually liked the story that was built around the character. The movie also stars Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, and Stephen Graham as Scrum. Newcomers include Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent), and Golshifteh Farahani (Exodus: Gods and Kings).

Then there are the visuals in the film that were absolutely spectacular! Of course, all the films in the franchise had pretty great visuals, but these were only strengthened by the solid story. I truly loved the imagination that the directors brought to Dead Men Tell No Tales and these characters, and they awesomely executed their vision for the film.

If you are a fan of the Pirates franchise youre going to esteem this movie. If youre not a fan like myself, you actually still might find it enjoyable! One thing is for sure... kids are going to esteem it!!!

Tony Stark Invites Spider-Man to His NBA Finals Party in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING TV Spot

An amusing new NBA Finals TV spot has been released for Spider-Man: Homecoming. It features a conversation between Tony Stark and Happy Hogan about the guest list for his NBA Finals party and he wants to make sure that Peter Parker got an invite. There a couple funny bits in the spot, one of which includes Starks A.I. asking Happy Hogan if they should add Captain Steve Rogers to the party list and Happy responds with, "Too soon."

There will be an extended version of this trailer that airs during the NBA Finals. The promo came with the following note, "Tune-in to the NBA Finals on ABC to see what happens next."

Spider-Man-Homecoming will be released in theaters on July 7th! In case you missed the latest full trailer for the film that was released yesterday, click here!

STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Would Have Revolved Around Carrie Fishers Leia

Star Wars fans are still in the process of healing from the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher. Yesterday, some photos were released from Star Wars: The Last Jedi and a few of them featured some lovely images of Fisher as Leia. The photos of her embracing her daughter Billie Lourd and Mark Hamill definitely brought out the emotions in fans.

While speaking with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy talked about Fisher and revealed that had she not passed away, she would have had a mammoth role in director Colin Trevorrows Star Wars: Episode IX. That was the original conceive for the actress and the character she played. When talking about Fishers time shooting The Last Jedi, Kennedy said:

She was having a blast. The minute she finished, she grabbed me and said, Id better be at the forefront of IX! Because Harrison was front and center on VII, and Mark is front and center on VIII. She thought IX would be her movie. And it would have been.

Leia would have been front and center in Star Wars: Episode IX! Wow. I hope one day we learn what that story would have been and how Leias arc would have played out. Lucasfilm and Trevorrow have obviously had to completely revamp the story. Its hard to think that The Last Jedi will be the last film that we see Carrie Fisher in. Ive been hearing that her performance is incredible, so I cant wait to see it!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15th.

Of course it has. Dont be silly.

Aside from a completely unnecessary dismissal of director Carl Franklin to kick off this video (if hed seen Devil in the Blue Dress, he wouldnt be talking shit), the YouTube personality known as Nerdwriter1 explores that question in fine form in his latest video essay.

Earlier today we learned that Will Smith is in talks to join Disneys live-action adaptation of Dumbo. A recent report from Variety indicates that, if cast, he will "play the father of the children who develop a friendship with the lovable elephant after seeing him at the circus." Thats pretty much the character I suspected he would play.

The report also reveals that Tom Hanks was offered the role of the villain in the story! I would esteem to see Hanks take on the villainous role in the Tim Burton-directed film. They dont say exactly who he would be playing, but if they stay true to the original animated film, he will be playing the Circus Ringmaster, which is perfect for Hanks!

The actor has a choice to make. He can choose to take on this villain role in Dumbo or hes also looking at starring in a World War II drama called Greyhound. The report says hell probably take the role in Greyhound, which II can see him doing, but it would be fun to see him in Dumbo because we rarely get to see him play a villain.

So the luxury goods retailer Dolce & Gabbana is selling the Jurassic Park hoodie you see above for $675. They are also selling a Jurassic Park t-shirt for only $425 just in case you cant afford the hoodie. I just dont understand this madness!? Is there a market of super rich movie geeks out there that would actually pay this kind of money for a hoodie that should really only cost about $25? There must be a market for it if they are selling it and that confuses the hell out of me.

Even if I was ridiculously rich, I would still prefer to buy my Jurassic Park hoodies and t-shirts at Target. Is this the beginning of the luxury market targeting geek culture?

Watch Francis Ford Coppola and THE GODFATHER Cast Talk About the Legendary Films

Director Francis Ford Coppola recently reunited with the cast of The Godfather at the Tribeca Film Festival for the 45th anniversary. During a panel that was streamed live, they talked about their thoughts and experiences with the legendary films. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and Talia Shire were all in attendance and if you are a fan of The Godfather movies like I am, youre going to want to watch this 80-minute video of them talking about it!

The director and cast discussed the novel that the film was based on, the screen tests they went through, what it was like getting cast in the film, and their favorite memories of the production.

I was first introduced to The Godfather when I was in high school and it completely blew me away! I remember my friends and I talking about it and quoting it all the time. I always loved going to the movies, but The Godfather gave me a whole new appriciation for the art of filmmaking.
