Colonization was for the purpose of creating an empire in order to take the raw materials for the mother countrys use for manufacturing goods and sending to other countries. Countries believed they could run the governments of other countries better than the country they took as colony. Colonies allowed countries to get rid of their undesirables by shipping them out to other sites in their empire. The armies and navies built to protect the empire also lessened the chance that the mother country would be attacked.
