things are magnetised because all of its atoms are pointed with there north/south poles in the same direction. in things like plastic, all the atoms are pointed in random directions, while in magnets, theyre all pointed in one direction. you can magnetize something like iron by putting a magnet next to it, pulling the atoms into one direction. its caused by all the electromagnetic feilds going the same way and helping eachother out. its like the ghostbusters crossing the beams.
