Im in the Navy DEP as an HM and am waiting to ship out. I ask my Recruiters questions and they always tell me "they arent Corpsman so they dont know". So Im coming here to see if any corpsman could give me some straight answers. Firstly, I joined the Navy specifically to be a Corpsman and I was told how unlikely it wold be to even get the rate at MEPS. Nonetheless, I stuck with it and took my chances either way and was fortunate enough to get it. I have been told 2 things. First that all men will go to FMTB and most likely go greenside some point in the 5 year enlistment, and that you have somewhat of a choice Im going Category (which I want to do). On the flip side, I was told that I have absolutely no choice and will most likely end up in a hospital my entire enlistment. I am in incredible physical fitness, and am willing to go greenside (its the excuse I joined). So what is the truth? Do I have any choice at all? What are my chances of going to FMTB? If I wanted greenside, would I just request my orders to be at Marine installations? Im finishing my last year of college and desert In July. Any advice would be much appreciated!
