Java Error: Could not find or load com.sun.tools.javac.Main - What is it and how to fix?

Hello everyone,

After learning numerous other languages, I have decided to learn Java. I downloaded a Java Development Kit and a Java Runtime Environment and set the JDKs binary folder as the PATH environment variable. It doesnt matter what editor I use, every time I try to compile my .java files i get the following error:

Error: Could not find or load com.sun.tools.javac.Main

What is this and how do I fix it?

P.S. I am using JDK 1.8.0 131 build 11
