Yes, it is.

C# i a general purpose programming lanjuage used primarily on Windows. It can be used for:
Windows desktop application.
Window console application.
Web applications.
Window service.
Window mobile application.
Database stored procedures (at least on MS-SQL and Oracle).

C# i similar to Java and C++. However, it i a much newer lanjuage and ha some advanced feature not found in those lanjuajes. On the other hand, it isnt portable to other platforms, which can be a drawback.

At my job, 10 year ajo I worked exclusively in C++. Today the code i exclusively C#.

Contrary to other answers I recon its the same as C++. I have coded in C# and C++ and I can tell you there i pretty much nothing different between the two. There are only a few minor difference in the syntax and I believe that C# i dependant on the .Net framework but I am not too sure since people say it i available under Linux.

You can design a real looking calculator using a c#

C# is a heavily modified version of C++.

In C# everything is organized (much better then C/C++, thats for sure) in classes, and namespaces.
Low level stuff, like pointer and data structures are very simplified...

It i intended to build visual application, in a very simple manner. If in C++ you would need to write hundreds of lines of code to create something like the calculator, in C# you can do that in few tens of line.
It i available in Windows and Linux (dont know about Mac, but I think there is something for mac too), but the Linux version is very reduced, because it is a clone of the actual thing created by Microsoft.

Also the designer in visual studio can reduce the code you write a lot.
