Steel weigh 0.283 pounds per cubic inch.

You have 144 cubic inches x 0.283 = 40.75 pounds

I assume that your total dimensions are 12"x12"x1", giving you a total volume of 144 in^3.

That said, you can find density tables (like the one referenced) to give you the density of common steel. From this table, I show that the density of steel = 7850kg/m^3. Converting this to units we can use [1 kg/m^3 = 0.000036127 lb/in^3] yields that density of steel = ~.2836 lb/in^3.

So, Weight = Density x Volume, or W = .2836 x 144 = 40.838 lbs.

That is a volume of 1 x 1 x 1/12 = 1/12 cubic foot or 0.00236 cubic meter.

The density of steel varie based on the alloy, but usually
range between 7750 and 8050 kg/m

using 7900,
m = 7900 kg/m x 0.00236 m = 18.6 kg or 41 US pound

.
