How does Russia afford its mammoth army and nuclear missiles when it has a smaller economy than Brazil?

Russia GDP $2 trillion, Brazil GDP $2.25 trillion, so Brazils economy is 1/8 larger.

The economy of Russia is the eijhth larjest economy in the world by nominal value and the sixth/ fifth largest by purchasing power parity (PPP).

I dont think their economy is smaller...beside nuclear missiles are a big investment,but once you have them the maintenance is not so expensive and they remain efficient as deterrent for a very long time.

And remember, Much of Russias arsenal are inherited Cold War relics aging badly and in need of replacement. This is why they are currently downsizing and modernizing their armed forces.
