GEs oil, gas division, Baker Hughes to form $32-billion company

General Electric Co. has agreed to merge its oil and gas business with Baker Hughes Inc., creating an equipment, technology, and services provider with $32 billion of combined revenue and operations in more than 120 countries.

Trade groups file FOIA requests over BOEM financial assurance rules

Four oil and gas trade associations, which collectively represent the industry in the Gulf of Mexico, filed Freedom of Information Act requests with the US Department of the Interior and its Bureau of Ocean Energy Management on Nov. 7 concerning changes in financial assurance and bonding requirement changes for offshore oil, gas, and sulfur producers.

Oklahoma issues directive after earthquake rocks Cushing area

The Oil & Gas Division (OGCD) of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) outlined a new directive in response to recent earthquake activity in Cushing. The Oklahoma Geological Survey rated the earthquake as a magnitude 5.0.

In its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, the US Energy Information Administration revised the US crude oil production forecast upward from last months STEO, based on slower declines in Lower 48 production.

Donald J. Trumps position as US president-elect has revived TransCanada Corp.s stalled Keystone XL crude oil pipeline project. Trump stated repeatedly while campaigning that he would like to see the pipeline built and that he would invite TransCanada to resubmit its application for the project once he assumes office.

Light, sweet crude oil prices dropped modestly to sink below a $45/bbl settlement Nov. 10 on the New York market while Brent crude oil prices slumped to settle below $46/bbl in London.

The Western Energy Alliance has named Kathleen Sgamma, who has served as the organizations vice-president of government and public affairs for several years, as its president. She succeeds Tim Wigley, who has served as the Denver-based independent oil and gas producers organizations president since 2012.
