MARKET OBSERVE: Brent crude oil approached $67/bbl to start week

Brent crude oil reached a high of $66.83/bbl on the London market Feb. 18 before falling to settle at $66.25/bbl while US markets were closed Feb. 18 for the Presidents Day holiday.

Kasich vetoes bill with oil, gas property tax exemption expansion

Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich vetoed a state senate bill that included an expansion of the states exemption from the sales tax of tangible personal property tax directly used in the production of oil and gas that was retroactive to 2010. The Ohio Oil & Gas Association strenuously disagreed with the premise that the governor has line item veto authority within the bill.

EPA releases final 2017 renewable fuel quotas, draws industry fire

The US Environmental Protection Agency announced final renewable fuel quotas for 2017 that increased volume requirements from 2016 levels under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard. The American Petroleum Institute and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers each criticized the Nov. 23 move, and called on Congress again to substantially reform or repeal the RFS.

Light, sweet crude oil for May delivery settled above $53/bbl for a
second consecutive day Apr. 11 on the New York market and the Brent
contract for June settled above $56/bbl in London as Saudi Arabia
encouraged an extension of the production-cut targets by major oil
producers.

But BP suffered reputational damage from the 2010 oil spill in the long run, compared to a simulated version of the firm where the disaster never happened
