AFTER your spouse joins the Service, you can have as many children as you want. There i no limit to the number of authorized dependent you can have. If someone i confusing the "before you join" with an "after you join", then they are moron.

A another answer mention however, your pay may be an issue. Contrary to misguided comments (particularly in Yahoo Answer), no one in the Service gets "paid extra" for dependent. Servicemembers with dependent do get some higher allowances (which are different from base pay). Servicemember with dependent get a higher housing allowance if the live off-base, and will get Family Separation Pay when deployed. But there is NO extra base pay.

Your spouse base pay is, like many salaried pay scale in the civilian world, based on a number of factors, such as assumed education, likelihood of dependents, hosing expectations, job responsibility, etc. For example: the pay for an E3 is based on an assumption that he is living in the barracks, i single, drives the same car they had in high school, and ha no real debt. The pay for an E5 or O2 assumes that they have dependants, live off-base, have some minor debt, own a new car, etc. An E8 and O5 owns a house, ha one kid in college, one about to be, etc.

So ..... you can have a second child, but your spouses base pay is not really designed to support you initially, let alone an existing child, and one on the way. An E3 with a spouse and child is able to live on their base pay, and if in government quarter it is easier, but they wont be "living large" initially.

You can have as many children as you want when he is doing his period of service, but remember that pay issue .....

Yes you can. That is the limit for enlistment.

You should however keep in mind what he will be earning. They set a low limit as people come in at a low pay grade and would have difficulty supporting that many dependents. Once they are in for a while and increase in pay grade supporting more dependents is easier.

Dependent limits are for initial entry only.
