Ive become pretty interested recently in benzodiazepines, specifically what metabolites are created by each after ingestion. If my understanding is correct, diazepam (Valium) metabolizes into oxazepam, nordiazepam and temazepam; clonazepam (klonopin) metabolizes into 7-aminoclonazepam and alprazolam (Xanax) metabolizes into 4-hydroxyalprazolam and a-hydroxyalprazolam. Most standard urine tests seem to either target oxazepam (which has a rather short half life) or nordiazepam (which has quite a long half life).
My question is, does this not mean that when someone is drug tested for benzos, technically clonazepam and alprazolam use should not be detected, since neither metabolize into the targeted metabolites (oxazepam/nordiazepam)? Or do they?
