Barclays: Global E&P spending drop revised to 27% for 2016

Barclays has revised down its global exploration and production spending outlook for 2016, now saying such spending could fall 27% this year, down from 15% back in January.

The Danish Energy Agency has awarded 16 oil and gas exploration licenses to 12 companies as part of the countrys seventh licensing round.

Houston Refining LP, a wholly owned subsidiary of LyondellBasell Industries NV, has reported a fire at its 268,000-b/d full-conversion Houston refinery on the Houston Ship Channel.

Thailands Banpu PLC has acquired a 29.4% stake in Chaffee Corners joint exploration agreement for $112 million. The deal provides Banpu with a net interest equivalent 156 bcfd of gas. The agreement targets the net output of about 21 MMcfd this year, the company said in a statement published on Thai stock exchange.

Newfield Exploration Co., The Woodlands, Tex., has agreed to acquire 42,000 net acres in the Anadarko basin STACK play of Oklahoma from a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, for $470 million. The deal is effective Apr. 1, and is expected to close during the second quarter.

State Oil Co. of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has signed a memorandum of understanding with BP PLC, giving the operator the exclusive right to negotiate on exploration and development of offshore Block D230 in the North Absheron basin in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. Block D230 lies in 300 m of water with reservoir depths of 3,000-5,000 m.

As announced in February, Cooper Energy Ltd., Adelaide, has sold two Indonesian exploration permits to Mandala Energy Investment Pte. Ltd. for $9.07 million comprising sale consideration ($8.25 million) and reimbursement of exploration costs to completion, net of Indonesian transfer taxes.

BP Norge AS and Det norske oljeselskap ASA have agreed to merge through a share-and-cash transaction into an independent exploration and production company with more than 120,000 boe/d of production offshore Norway.
