Any doomsday prepper out there?

I doubt the "end of the world" will happen, and Im not a prepper. Theres nothing wrong with being prepared for emergencies, however. Such as if you live in a state where hurricanes happen for instance. Think of taking up beekeeping. I not especially but I like to keep at least 500 rounds of ammunition and a few high capacity magazine handy to fend off the more militant doomsday preppers

We do hope this forum is a place for level headed questioners to get answers from level-headed answerers. However, there is no way to keep cranks and weirdos out.

It documents hundreds and hundreds of doomsday predictions that have been made in history and right up to the present, none of which have come to anything (obviously).

When these idiots predictions fail they seem to show no embarrassment at all, which shows they must have some mental disease. Many of them go on and set another date. And people still fall for it. Amazing.

While its nice to be prepared, some of the preppers shown on TV need an injection of a large dose of reality. One guy used all of his familys retirement and his kids college savings to buy a mountain top property and turn it into a fortress to prepare for the 2012 Mayan Apocalypse and asteroid impacts.

To prepare for a imaginary doomsday and an event that has a slim to none chance of happening while completely ignoring things that will definitely happen (his retirement and kids education) is beyond stupid.

Since youre asking in Astronomy & Space, presumably youre thinking about an asteroid collision. In that case, the best place to be would be ground zero, in my humble opinion, because anyone who survives is going to have a sad life indeed.

Otherwise, a a hedge against economic disaster and so forth, my plans are to immediately kill the neighborhood doomsday prepper and take their stuff for myself.
